Released on October 12, 1999, this is the fifth coin released in the 50 State Quarters Program and the fifth released in 1999. Connecticut, admitted into the Union on January 9, 1788, highlighted the The Charter Oak tree which proved to be a good hiding place for the state's original Constitution. President William J. Clinton was in office when this legislation was signed. Three United States Mint Directors served under President Clinton's tenure; David J. Ryder of Idaho, Philip N. Diehl of Texas, and Jay W. Johnson of Wisconsin.
